The Multifinger Imaging Tool operate with between 24 & 80 sensitive fingers (dependant on size to be measured): these fingers each measure very accurately an internal radius of the casing or tubing with an available resolution of a few thousandths of an inch. Every finger produces and independent ooutput, which is recorded many times a second. The resultant depth-based files can be used to automatically generate full statistical reports on well condition and extremely visual 'fly-through' 3D images on the well.
MIT's are available as Surface Readout tools or as Memory tools for use on Slickline. Data from the tools can be processed by a number of software packages to produce 3D images (MIT View), statistical information, (MIT Pro) and distortion data. The full tool range allows logs to be run in diameters from 2" to 20" id.
1 11/16" OD 24 Finger MIT Tool
DESCRIPTION
The Sondex 24 finger MIT has been designed to provide the most accurate tubing caliper measurements in the industry.
The high quality of the data allows for 3 dimensional imaging and the calculation of rates of corrosion or scale deposition.
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The tool is run in the hole using mono-conductor cable or Slickline. Once at the bottom the fingers are motored open.
The spring loaded, hardened tip fingers push against the ID of the casing or tubing at a constant force. As the tool is logged up the well, the movement of each finger is transferred to a position sensor. The output of the position sensor is then digitised for recording into memory or transmission up hole.
Data from each finger is monitored independently. At the end of the run the fingers are motored closed for pulling out of hole or for repeat logging. The tool contains an inclinometer to denote the high side and well deviation. The temperature of the electronics is monitored for software correction of sensor drift.

Quantification of scale build up and corrosion.
Accurate location of holes or anomalies.
Identification of tubing items and damage.

Need
- Avoidance of catastrophe by early warning of potentially terminal damage.
- Prolonging life of well as knowledge of wear will allow appropriate cautions.
- Scheduling work-overs as appropriate intervals for work -overs can be decided.
- Down-hole knowledge of casing wears during drilling & scale build-up or corrosion affecting flow conditions.
solution
- Accurate, high confidence internal diameter measurements.
- Corrosion, wear, scale, deformation.
- High density, low pressure fingers.
- Electric line or slick line.
- Sophisticated visualization and reporting.
Data Processing & Interpretation
Sapesco capabilities and services extend to include all technical support. In this view Interpretation and Analysis for the surveys will be implemented at our office in Cairo with the support of Sondex, UK.
Powerful Analysis Packages (MITPRO) will be used by our technical engineer for this task. These packages are easy to grasp, very limited data manipulation needed, and flexible reporting styles. The styles available for reports are:
- Field Conventional Log (requires only 12 hrs on head office)
- Tabular report with cross sections for areas of interest, Kinley Caliper like (requires only 72 hrs at head office)
Reporting
Field Log Print-out for Corrosion Detection
MIT Example and Reporting Methods
- Broken Control Line
- MIT & Production Profile Data
- 4D - Time Lapse Scale Survey
- Gas Lift Mandrel (from Above)
