Pipe Recovery

SMS provides diverse techniques that enable pipe recovery and provide solutions to a wide range of problems, well conditions, completion types, passing through restrictions.

SMS' expertise and wide range of solutions can get operations back on track when pipe string becomes stuck; causing and additional expenses. SMS offers worldwide experience for dealing with most any condition

Radial Cutting Torch

RCT systems can be conveyed using wire line, slick line or coiled tubing. A special anchor holds the tool in place during ignition and cutting, ensuring a clean and complete cut. The design of the tool lets you cut in close-contacts conditions, highly deviated wells and scaled pipes. RCT tools are proven to operate with greater standoff. With their small diameters, the tools can pass through, and cut below tubular restrictions.

Chemical Cutters

Chemical cutters dissolve pipe with a clean cut that leaves no debris and does not require milling prior to pipe retrieval. The tool can be adapted for many special cutting applications where other cutting methods may be ineffective or undesirable.

Chemical cutters can shorten operating time and reduce rig costs. Additionally, they can be used to release specially designed permanent packers, and to cut pipe and casing during plug and abandonment operations

Chemical cutters are a mechanical/chemical pressure actuated device that is based on oxidation/reduction process to cut stuck tubing/pipe downhole.

Split Shot

Split shot is run in a linear configuration adjacent to any collar or connection and positioned by in-line magnets. After detonation, the collar or connection is split allowing the pipe to be freed for easy removal.

String shot back-off involves applying left-hand torque to the pipe string at the neutral pipe weight (in neither tension nor compression). The string shot-back off method has been improved through years of research and experience to increase operating efficiency without damaging the pipe string.

Jet Cutters

Jet Cutters are used to sever tubing or casing in various situations and allow recovery of the upper sections.  This type cutter will, under ideal conditions, leave a smooth-cut pipe with some degree of swelling at the point of the cut.

Severing Tool

Severing tool is a dual-end severing device for cutting thick-wall tubular. The cutting technique is based on the colliding shock wave principle.  The severing device is used for cutting drill collars and drill pipe in a wide variety of stuck pipe scenarios.
